On the bank of a stream, in the shadow of more huge, shear cliffs. Note the size of the trees on top to get an idea of the height. - IMG 3009
Time for some hiking! - IMG 3008

Pictures just can't do this place justice. Think thousands and thousands of feet. Hugeness. - IMG 3005
The "Great Arch of Zion." It's probably about 500 feet tall and 1500 across. Really amazing. This is the first thing you see after leaving a tunnel that takes you into the canyon proper, on the west side. I'd have to say that hands-down, Zion was the most amazing place we saw during the trip. - IMG 3003
Things started to get cool as soon as we got on SR-9 on the east side of Zion. - IMG 3001
A ridge with a LAKE! It was odd to see a bunch of boats being towed around the desert; we were confounded until we saw the majestic, day-glo lake Powell. - IMG 2994
I don't know why. Ask her. - IMG 2993
At each gas station, we launched a preemptive strike against bug-gut encrustation on the front of the vehicle. It may be many months before leslie has time to give a shit about how clean her car is, and by then the remains may have fossilized. - IMG 2992
We needed to take a picture of this ridge because we hadn't seen anything like it the day before or the day before that. - IMG 2991
Think hard about what the bug splattered on the windshield means for all of us. - IMG 2988
It's neat because of the mirror, see? - PICT0117
For some reason (I'm guessing beer), the girl we got to take this on our beer garden tour thought we would rather have just a picture of us than a picture of us AND the liter of beer in a giant barrel of a glass in front of us. (sigh) There is one exciting feature of this shot: my purse strap sunburn. - PICT0116
In the one store in all of Northern Europe that carried Dr Pepper... - PICT0115

I'm sure this statue signifies something deep about risk-taking or something, but to me he looked disturbingly like a memorial to suicide jumpers. - PICT0112

Bagpipes! (of some sort) For Cameron. - PICT0110

Leslie and Sarah inside the museum, by a big boat. Taken by a woman who didn't know how to hold the camera still. - PICT0107
Me in front of the science and industry museum and some river we never quite caught the name of. Notice the garish yellow visor, bought in a moment of delerium to keep the sun off my pale little face. - PICT0106
All these big grey buildings in northern Europe had beautiful red flowers in the windows, which I thought were just lovely. - PICT0105
Pole in the center of the market: another example of why I don't like the German aesthetic. - PICT0104
