After we got through Maytag, Bryan sprints back up to get a video of Ryan's raft going over. They lose someone, but she gets pulled back in in no time. - 140 4070

Arrival Location: Maumelle Park, Arkansas After a long and lovely drive through various east Texan towns (we opted for the backroads rather than I-30) and various Arkansan hamlets (ah, Arkedelphia, ye city on a hill), we arrived at our campsite not far out of Little Rock. Only slightly dismayed by the prevalence of the over-65 set, we pitched the tent and set off to the nearby Pinnacle State Park, to scale the largest mountain...within...half an hour of Little Rock... - 246927 10102372640675873 1081991016 n

the pinnacle Location: Pinnacle Mountain State Park, AR Having scaled said mountain, a friendly native Arkansan snapped our picture. It was a beautiful view, and an excellent way to spend the last few hours before sunset. - 253 G
the descent Location: Maumelle Park, Arkansas After the man at our campsite scoffed at the difficulty of the climb, it didn't even occur to Leslie to change shoes. Our adventurers chose, however, to climb up the rock slide rather than the easy trail, and Leslie's creativity was tested when descending the slope in slippery sandals (Bryan bounded down like a billy goat). - 260 G
Hot Springs Bathhouse Location: Hot Springs, AR We didn't take baths. But we did take the self-guided tour. - 270 G
Fathers' Day Location: Ouchita Lake, AR After our driving tour of the Ouchita Mountains and Lake and 1-hour jetski rental (woo!), we took a moment to pause, and appreciate our absent fathers. [Bryan is sorry for not calling.] - 271 G
fathers' day Location: Lake Ouchita, AR Happy Fathers' Day, once again. - 273 G
Graceland Location: Graceland, Memphis, TN Graceland, as it turns out, cost $25. We got as far as the ticket booth and turned back, but not before taking some smarmy pictures and leaving Bryan's camera in the post office (so we actually got to visit Graceland twice). Elvis lives. - 277 G
Nashville at sunset Location: Nashville, Tennessee While we were underwhelmed by Memphis (we probably just didn't drive through the right parts), Nashville was charming. A shot of downtown as we drove to the Opryland Hotel. - 28 week annie

The Art Institute Location: Chicago Our first stop on Monday was the Art Institute of Chicago. As we arrived half an hour before it opened, we had time to linger in the sculpture garden (pictured) and trot down to Lake Michigan for the view. - 296 G
Thousands of Avalokitesvaras Location: Chicago A shout-out to Clare. I was really thrilled to see all the Buddhist art. Really. Thrilled. - 301 G
All tuckered out Location: Hyatt Regency, Printer's Row After an exhausting day of romping around downtown Chicago, the task of consciousness proves too much for Bryan. He collapses. - 304 G
Art Institute: Reprise Location: Art Institute of Chicago Tres Magritte, no? We decided to return on Tuesday to catch what we'd missed of the Art Institute before heading south to the University area. - 305 G
La Universidad Location: Chicago Our big adventure Tuesday was finding and visiting the University of Chicago, which required further exploration of the L and a 3 mile hike. But the trek was worth it--the campus was beautiful and the neighborhood was very cool. - 32 week annie
