19-25 February 2005 Why not visit New York at the coldest time of year? Food, snow, Broadway, orange gates, jazz, food, friends, ale, food, and more--all were had. George hosted us along with Doug and Jeff.

Arrival: Four guests descend upon George's warehouse commune for stays of varying lengths. Pictured here are Bryan's arm, red shag carpet, Jeff, Doug in 1970s era taxi hat, and George, trying to figure out where the hell to put all of us.

When the boys all pull out their laptops, Leslie decides it's time to get out. She visits Danny (who lives perhaps a mile away), and they tromp all over Brooklyn in the middle of the night. Pictured: Danny in front of the Brooklyn museum.

Trippy picture of the memorial to the Union war dead. It's a Euro-style arch in the middle of Brooklyn, in front of the entrance to the park. It's not actually orange. It is impossibly huge. As Danny said, you win the war, you get better memorials.

Morning breaks. Leslie photographs the solution to the space question from the loft.

Leslie and Bryan walk Brooklyn Heights and get their first daytime look at Manhattan.

Leslie takes random photographs. This was the gate of some pilgrim abolitionist whatever church.

Some warehouse and--no doubt--performance space by the Brooklyn Bridge.

Leslie, arch, bridge.

And now, just the arches.

The first of many surreptitious pictures taken in our muy swanky-yet-unpretentious brunch destination (courtesy of Cameron and Matt), The River Cafe. That's the Brooklyn bridge shooting out over the restaurant.

Compliments of the chef! Onion flan with smoked salmon and capers in an eggshell.

Leslie's lobster soup--the best food EVER.

Bryan's diver scallops.

Although already full from the first course, Leslie can't resist ordering the suckling pig. Because it's called suckling pig. As it turns out, suckling pig is barbeque. It was served with whipped sweet potatoes topped with a toasted marshmallow. Will the craziness never cease? After brief nibbles, she donates the rest to Bryan's unstoppable hunger.

Leslie can't resist taking the same picture of the bridge that is sold at every tourist shop in the city.

Bryan ponders the city.

Leslie and Bryan hop a subway to their first Manhattan destination: Central Park and The Gates.

Leslie begs you to appreciate the fact that she took 18 pictures of the gates and narrowed it down to these.
