We ended our Sunday bike ride at the mouth of the same river we'd rafted down. Then we went treasure hunting for cool rocks. - scan0022
Same beach. Here you can see where the gray-ish, near-freezing glacier melt river meets the larger, warmer, bluer lake. This is also where we ended our rafting trip. - scan0023
Leslie, still on zero hours of sleep, in front of the Seine, Notre Dame, etc. - scan0024
My favorite shot from that exhibit. At least after looking at all of Van Gogh's landscapes, I could understand how he painted them from scenes like this one. - scan0025
One of my favorites--Irises. - scan0026
My very favorite--Almond Blossoms. Evidently he was very influenced by Japanese prints, and you can definitely see that in this painting. - scan0027
One of my favorites, a Rembrandt portrait. I just liked the look in his eyes. - scan0028
Vermeer's The Kitchen Maid. Very famous for the way he painted natural light indoors. - scan0029
One of Rembrandt's earliest self-portraits. Looks kind of like a kid I knew in high school. - scan0031
Before our hostel let us in, Sarah and I staggered around Paris on no sleep at all. In this lovely garden (called "the Garden of Plants"), we tried to sleep in the grass and got kicked out. - scan0032
Flowers! - scan0033
Sarah's feet. She had a neat panoramic setting on her camera. - scan0034
When we managed to get out of bed at about noon on our second day in Munich, we tried walking to the big park, where we were promised naked sunbathers. Instead, we got hopelessly lost. Here's Leslie, footsore, in front of a random monument we happened upon on our way. This was shortly before the biting insects struck. God was not pleased with us this day. - scan0035
An alp-y view on our trek. - scan0036
Another alp-y view. - scan0037
Leslie and Sarah on our first ambitious bike ride. This was the flat section. - snow eating

Sarah, my brave travelling companion, on the train from Paris's hellhole of an airport. It's 7 am. She hasn't slept all night. Neither have I. - PICT0002
We got off the train at a metro stop downtown and decided to walk to the hostel we hoped would have room for us (after discovering the one we'd made reservations at was in the red light district). In retrospect, it was a mistake to tackle the miles with packs on, but in this picture I was excited. We'd emerged into the city and immediately found a sight! (What is it? Who knows! But definitely a sight.) - PICT0005
The view from the window of our hostel, which finally let us in for a merciful nap at 3:00. Pretty Paris rooftops. - PICT0006
After the blessed sleep, Sarah and I decided to be true tourists and picnic and watch the sun set at the Eiffel Tower. Which we finally found after getting lost, again. - PICT0007
It was really an exquisite picnic. A baguette, brie, the best strawberries I've ever tasted (featured here), and little bottles of chocolate mousse. Probably among the best meals I ate in Europe. - PICT0009
Me, post-picnic, in front of the Eiffel Tower. At this point, I still don't believe we're in Paris. - PICT0010
No comment. - PICT0011
Sarah, in the Paris train station, as we jog to catch the train to Brussels. - PICT0012
Leslie having lunch at a sidewalk café (overpriced, naturalmente) in Brussels. The main plaza is behind me. - PICT0014
