Debreifing for "Maytag" (guess where the name comes from), the biggest rapid (class "4+") on our trip. It was pretty intimidating, but at this point it was around a corner so we had no reason to be concerned.

Surfing. Just after going over a rapid, we paddled hard back to it and sort of lodged the raft in the eddy underneath it. It was fun--it filled up various parts of the raft with water. Kind of a mini version of dangerous eddies on larger rapids.

The water, all snow melt, was clear and beautiful. This is gold-rush country, and there are actually still quite a few people who stake claims and dredge enough gold out of the river to make a meager living.
